DP Green clinches two Singapore Landscape Architecture Awards

Published on 13 October 2015

Honouring the best works of Singapore’s landscape architects, Singapore Landscape Architecture Awards conferred two awards on DP Green for its projects Four Acres Singapore and myVillage. Winning Gold and Silver respectively, the projects were commended for setting distinctions in the design and practice of landscape architecture and in promoting landscape design innovation.

The firm secured two landscape design awards – Gold in the Institution category for Four Acres Singapore, Unilever’s 2.3ha leadership development facility and corporate university at one-north; and Silver in the Commercial Building category for myVillage, a low-rise suburban mall tucked away in the private residential estate of Serangoon Gardens. On the firm’s double award wins, Mr Yeong Weng Fai, director of DP Green, said, “It is a privilege to win these accolades and to feel recognised for the professionalism and attention to detail we put into our projects. We believe green spaces are invaluable social spaces that make cities liveable, so landscape cannot be divorced from architecture. Even if the space is commercial, we hope our landscape designs encourage personal interaction and a sense of respite. All this is part of DP Group’s larger commitment to enrich the human experience.”

Four Acres Singapore is an institutional campus by Unilever, the global consumer goods company, housing and training selected talents to be top leaders in the company. Nestled in a tree conservation area, the building form meanders around existing clusters of mature trees, preserving the original wooded environment as much as possible. The training centre has a continuous green roof that reduces heat gain. The landscape strategy was to augment the existing species on site with new species of flora for texture, form and colour to increase the biodiversity as well as create an experiential, tropical woodland habitat. There is also a planned nature trail through the woodland for visitors and residents, showcasing the conserved trees and bio-diverse plants.

myVillage is a laidback, cosy neighbourhood mall situated in the heart of Serangoon Gardens, designed as a recreational haven evoking sentiments of home. The mall was designed as a garden courtyard, providing an immersive garden experience. This lush, welcoming effect was achieved by arranging plants along the periphery of the site and installing vertical greenery cladding the wall near the escalators. A continuous garden walk and sky terrace on the second storey wraps around the southwest corner of the mall, culminating in a spacious rooftop garden for patrons.

The awards ceremony was held on the evening of 12 October at Pan Pacific Singapore.
