The Central
Every urbanite’s dream
What would it be like to lounge at the urban centre amidst a gardenesque ambience while drinking in our cityscape? Taking full advantage of our tropical weather, we realised every urbanite’s dream of that trendy rooftop garden and chic lounging spaces. The venue: One of our city’s trendiest and most picturesque spots, the Central at Clarke Quay.

Situated along the Singapore River and at the heart of Clarke Quay, Central offers the vantage point of an unobstructed view of the riverfront and the city life that ebbs along the water’s edge. In lieu of its location, it was conceived as a mixed-use development comprising an office tower, a retail podium and SOHO apartments. These two factors – site context and real estate vision – were in turn, the key to our design approach when conceptualising its roofscape.
Cosy tete-a-tete corners are orchestrated with landscape elements and greenery.
Curvilinear timber-lined planters form places for rest and inter-activity.
Like a luxurious tropical getaway, the greens work with the décor to present an alluringly relaxing space.
In order to create a space that is modern yet distinct, sleek but relaxing; the design team took a minimalist approach. The poolside deck on the podium roof features a geometric array of Jacuzzis, water features and a lap pool. Flowing with the aesthetic mood, we introduced Australian grass trees (Xanthorrhoea preissi) and Horsetail Reeds (Equisetum sp.). The combination of greens lends the space an abstract and distinctive look. Set amidst these amenities are polygonal custom-built planters. Each holds singular flowering species for a dramatic effect. Long linear benches line the sides of the planters, creating a sophisticated, modern outlook for the landscape.
